Oaked Chardonnay: The Wine Style We Love to Hate to Love | Taught by Alexis Percival | April 15th | 8:30PM
If mimicry is the best form of flattery then Oaked Chardonnay should blush. And yet, this polarizing style is referenced in absolute love and hate terms perhaps more than any other. If this sounds like you, we challenge you to take this class and discover a deeper unstanding of the style you may already enjoy or an appreciation for it if you havent had *ahem* the best experiences.
Drink-a-long with Alexis on Wednesday 4/15 via Zoom. Purchase a bottle of Oaked (not Oakey!) Chardonnay of good quality. If you really think you hate this style, a good mind changer would be a white Burgundy. You can ask your wine shop to select one that has some oak treatment, but expect to pay a little more. For those of you who usually drink white Burgundy as your go-to, I invite you to branch out to another region. Some ideas, Margaret River Australia, Southern Chile (Bio-Bio), New Zealand, Northern Italy, Sonoma California, and again, with some oak treatment. You don't have to break the bank, but expect to pay in the $16-$30 range for good quality. These are the wines I will be using, but by no means should this limit you. Whatever you can get in these lean times...
