Cougar Juice: Those Big Ol' Red Wines

Alexis and Patrick's affectionate name for big, bold red wines that have mass appeal. There is a reason we humans tend to like this style of wine: high alcohol, fruit forward, high extraction, notable oak with maybe even *gasp* residual sugar.  Unfortunately these wines are also susceptible to being mass produced and highly engineered with additives, often resulting in poor quality. But wait- there is a way to have your Argentine Malbec and drink it too! Alexis will discuss our monkey brains and why we gravitate to this style (at least at first), additives in wine and, most important, how to enjoy the better examples of this style of wine.

Drink-a-long with Alexis by purchasing a bottle of a big red. Shoot for something with 14% + alcohol, but maybe outside of what you usually buy. Maybe a recommendation from your local shop? A different region, country or grape. New World instead of Old World etc. Let's find a refreshed appreciation for this style!
